Try It Tuesday

Okay, so I've been a little behind on my Try It Tuesday "column" but I'm back. Here is today's:

1. Key Lime Pie at Bonefish Grill

It is the best key lime pie I have found in the city. Not too sweet, just right. It was a great treat this past weekend. The crust is made with crushed pecans and is divine. It is worth the trip to either Collierville or Cordova!

2. Buying Local - AgriCenter Farmer's Market

Okay, so it's not like this is a new idea, but we went for the first time this summer and had some great finds. Our favorite, or the boys I should say, was the red plums and the plumcots (cross between plum and apricot). The boys eat these all day long like candy. Of course, this also ends up to frequent trips to the bathroom in the #2 department, but hey, it's good for them! Jones' Orchard sells them at their booth, and they are picked fresh every morning out in Millington. They are only $3 for a quart - totally worth it. We also got fresh picked blueberries that are herbicide free (not that I am really into that, but it can't hurt!). With Charlie by my side, I can't leave without a watermelon; they are of course not local yet, but are guaranteed sweet!

3. River Oaks Restaurant

We tried this on our date night this past Saturday. We had tried it years ago when it first opened, and didn't have a great experience. It was fantastic. We started with Jicama Lobster Tacos as an appetizer; they were delicious, Baxter can't stop talking about them! For our entree, I had scallops and Baxter had salmon. They were both served with locally grown vegetables and were wonderful. We of course ended with dessert which was key lime pie (not as good as Bonefish!) and passion fruit ice cream which was so refreshing. We are pretty harsh restaurant critics and this exceeded all expectations. It is pricey, but worth a splurge on a rare date, which also doubled as a celebration dinner for a promotion for Baxter!
